Mos Eisley Cantina

In a disco far, far away....

Mos Eisley cantina is a Tatooine hotspot, known for its variety of characters, flavoursome food and awesome dancing; although occasionally there can be outbreaks of lightsaber-dabbing....

Chewie and Jaspar

We had some special visitors to our class today. Jahn brought his puppies, Chewie and Jaspar, in for a visit before they go to their new homes. They are crossbred Maltese - Shitzu pups and were so cuddly and very well-behaved!

Wellington Wanderers

At the end of May, Year 6 visited our capital city, Wellington, for a jam-packed two days of non-stop fun and learning!

Our first step was to the Beehive, where we discovered how laws are debated and passed in New Zealand. Jahn was the Speaker for our  class parliament before we sat in the Gallery to listen to a parliamentary session. We were astonished at the level of noisy argument and the political games being played by the MPs.

Then it was on to the National Library, where we saw the Treaty of Waitangi and the huge roll of signatures collected by Kate Sheppard, who campaigned for NZ women to be allowed to vote in elections.

We managed to ride in the Wellington Cable Car, which took us through some crazy, illuminated tunnels!

Our second day began with a walk along the waterfront, where we spent some time playing on the playground.

Then it was on to Te Papa. We found out that the colossal squid has a brain shaped like a doughnut and its mouth is in the middle! We also learned how Te Marae has carvings to represent all the peoples of New Zealand.

Our final visit was to the Weta Cave, where we saw trolls, orcs and a hobbit hole before exploring the Thunderbirds sets and discovering some model-making tricks of the trade!
